Oscars

The Oscars are over again and a movie named “slumdog millionaire” won a whopping 8 of them. Now, I’ve never heard of this movie before. Seems to me like it was buried in the ridiculous amount of advertisement for “mall cop” — a painfully cheesy flick that I did not want to see in the first place and whose overdone ads everywhere made me want to watch it even less.

Also, “Slumdog Millionaire” is going to premiere in Germany mid-March only, well after its release date in the US, and obviously after the Oscars as well. I thought the times when movies are released in Germany later than the US were finally over? Guess not.

  1. That’s definitely a nominee for the Golden Raspberry Award!!! bs!

  2. The “Mall Cop” one? Absolutely! It’s pretty bad. (Which is probably also the reason why they advertised it so much, otherwise nobody would watch it).

  3. Never heard of “mall cop”, but I guess that it is better that way.

Anyways, although “slumdog millionaire” is a little cheesy from time to time, it’s definetly one of the better movies at theaters. Even on the risk of loosing my image as a fan of indepentdent movies (preferably a b/w burmese movie by a blind director dubbed thai with farsi subtitles), I’d recommend watching it.
At least is different from the typical Bollwood Musical with Sha ruk Khan :)

  4. Kai: Didn’t know you were a fan of independent movies. Is there a theater in Karlsruhe that plays them? I guess the “Schauburg” shows some “uncommon” stuff, but I would be hesitant to call them an “independent theater” because of it.

  5. There’s no (real) independent theatre of which I know in Karlsruhe.
I mostly acquire those movies by renting out the DVD, stumbeling across them on arte or any given “Drittes” weekday nights or on movie nights in my dorm.

But I guess, that “Slumdog millionaire” will be shown at the theatre of your choice (given its success at the academy awards)
