Trapped!
Oops, a rock slide trapped us in Whistler: “Rock slide closes Vancouver to Whistler route” (cbc.ca)
Luckily, there’s still time until Friday to clean it up. Had it happened on departure day, there’d be over 400 flights to reschedule. Good times.
Update: The story of Mozilla being trapped seems to get a little press feedback: On ZDNET, for example, and the local press wants to cover our experience as well.
Update 2: The highway is to reopen today (Saturday) night, they say.

This rock slide is _obviously_ an evil plot by Microsoft to give IE8 more time to gain on Firefox.

Whistler and the other communities above the rock slide are not completely cut off; there’s an alternate route, although it takes 6 hours instead of 2+ hours to get from Whistler to Vancouver. Certainly a huge inconvenience at least, and a significant hardship for many of the locals.
I wonder if provisions have been made for medical emergencies? Air evacuation to Vancouver for instance.
Maybe someone could provide a ferry service for commuters?

Doug: Yes, actually we did take the long route all the way around. It took 6.5 hours on the bus (fast bus driver) so we made it to the airport well on time. Apparently, the Sea to Sky highway is to reopen tonight. I sure hope so, for everybody who lives up there!
