Oregon State Capitol

Oh, that almost slipped through my radar: On January the 10th, Wikipedia’s featured article was the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, OR.

Which made me notice that I never got to go there, even though I lived barely a half-hour away for a year. However, I guess I made up for it by visiting the Idaho State Capitol in Boise, ID :)

  1. You’re not missing much. I used to work in one of those windows on the third floor on the left. Good times.

Also, little known trivia: They clean the gold man statue 4 times a year and while he’s in for cleaning they paint a real guy gold and have him stand up there.

  2. Thanks, very interesting. I guess you were lucky then that you only worked inside, and not as the golden guy outside ;)

Were you a page? So was my girlfriend, over there in Boise.

  3. Nah, tech support. They had to have someone there 24/7 while they were in session so there were a lot of late nights.

Also cool (and true this time ;) ) trivia: There are little thumb print scanners on the wall in the senate/representative chambers. When they’re all milling around and they need to vote on a bill they can just go up to a scanner and put their thumb on it either right side up or upside down to vote yes or no and it detects who it is from the thumbprint.
