On 10/24/2006, I posted a blog entry about a congratulatory cake that reached us Mozilla employees by the Microsoft Internet Explorer team. The story almost immediately made it into “geeky” news channels and from there to multiple forums, blogs, personal emails etc. etc.

Subsequently many people blogged it themselves, linking to the picture and this website. All of this made my web server sweat and put a lot of traffic on my tiny little blog.

Eventually, the story ended up on slashdot which again brought many, many thousands of visitors my way.

While I am deeply honored I had to pay for my bandwidth and my server, so I asked people to donate a buck or two.
