“Green” E-Mailing in Corsica

For our upcoming honeymoon, I am currently reserving a number of hotel rooms on the beautiful island of Corsica.

Intriguingly, so far, under the emails two of these hotels sent me, I found a sentence like the following, asking you not to print out the email:

Afin de contribuer au respect de l’environnement, merci de n’imprimer ce courriel que si nécessaire – please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.

I wonder if this is a “Corse thing”, or if it’s just a coincidence. Pretty cool, nonetheless.

  1. I’ve seen an e-mail footer like this several times, mostly on internal communication in bigger companies sent from someone in the UK.

I try to only print out stuff I really have to, i.e., train tickets, boarding passes, or papers I’d like to read “offline”. That’s why my ink jet cartridge used to go south a few weeks after every single time I had replaced it. The laser printer is much more reliable in that case, it doesn’t complain if I don’t print anything in months…

  2. That’s precisely why I just recently bought a laser printer (not an inkjet) — I am sick of paying a boat load of money for some drops of ink, and when you need to use it after a little while of no printing, you end up having to replace the dried-up ink cartridge. Mark my words: Ink printers are dead. What killed them was, among inferior technology, the ridiculous ink prices.

Sure, you can’t print decent photos with a color laser printer, but seriously — who ever printed a serious amount of photos on their private printer anyway? I know I haven’t.
