Your hypothesis seems to be backed by the fact that I find "ginormous" in the &lt;a href="http://www.askoxford.com/results/?view=dict&#038;freesearch=ginormous&#038;branch=13842570&#038;textsearchtype=exact" rel="nofollow"&gt;Oxford dictionary&lt;/a&gt; (online), where it is marked as "British informal".

Guess I need to change the article, then :)</description>

		<description>I haven't got a decent dictionary to hand but I'd have been surprised if I couldn't find this word in the dictionary (I'm British). Looking online it seems to be British slang that has spread to America, but assuming it is in British dictionaries it seems a bit of a cheat to say its not.</description>
