From Redmond With Love
The Microsoft Internet Explorer Team sent us a cake for the upcoming release of Firefox 2!

A big thanks to Redmond, Washington!
P.S.: No, it was not poisoned
PPS: My Bandwidth bill was exploding. Thanks to everyone who helped my bandwidth bill by contributing a dollar or two. These are the friendly people who did.
October 24th, 2006 at 11:49 am
Well, what a nice gesture from the Microsoft folks.
Are you sure it wasn’t poisoned or are you all not yet suffering any pain?
October 24th, 2006 at 11:59 am
ummmm I’d check that cake for bugs first before eating
October 24th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
You won’t know that until 3 days from now
Actually, it’s rather nice of them, I’m impressed.
October 24th, 2006 at 12:09 pm
That’s sweet!
October 24th, 2006 at 12:16 pm
That was very nice of them
Did you get them anything?
Also … does the icing happen to spell anything in morse code?
October 24th, 2006 at 12:19 pm
So what did Mozilla send them? Tsk, tsk, now don’t say you didn’t give the IE team anything, they’ve done a good job in shipping the first major update in five years.
October 24th, 2006 at 12:20 pm
Is there enough to go around?
October 24th, 2006 at 12:43 pm
Lol! That’s kinda sweet. Literally.
October 24th, 2006 at 12:44 pm
BTW, did you tell them…
WE HAVEN’T SHIPPED THE #£§%¤! THING YET!!
October 24th, 2006 at 1:28 pm
I wonder if there’s a message hidden in binary in the black frosting around the edge….
October 24th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
I think you’ve now officially been dugg
Holy cow, what a mess on our server…

October 24th, 2006 at 1:34 pm
Whose blind toddler decorated it for them?
October 24th, 2006 at 2:02 pm
Just PR. They are trying to get some of the Firefox 2 thunder…. a gentle PR campaing.
October 24th, 2006 at 2:03 pm
I wanted to submit a bug report to the Firefox developers for Firefox 2.0 RC3, but couldn’t find the option to do so.
When I click on a picture or something it sends me to the top of the page and then when I go back down I click on the image and it takes me to the link i was trying to goto. This is VERY annoying. Please fix.
October 24th, 2006 at 2:06 pm
The people at Microsoft are nice… I have met a few and they are actually people, most of which also work on open source projects in their free time.
Not the best cake in the world (sure they could have probably afforded colour iceing and a better ie logo)… but still an awesome gesture.
October 24th, 2006 at 2:06 pm
Was it delicious?
October 24th, 2006 at 2:10 pm
RE: does the icing happen to spell anything in morse code?
No. There *could* be, starting with the single dot at the top edge, and moving clockwise, an E (.), then an S (…) then a W (.–) but the bottom edge throws it all of as (-….-) doesn’t really mean anything.
October 24th, 2006 at 2:10 pm
Fake – but a nice touch
October 24th, 2006 at 2:16 pm
now u can have your cake and eat it
October 24th, 2006 at 2:17 pm
It’s probably poison. Ever hear of the trojan horse?
Microsoft: eliminating competition the old fashion way.
October 24th, 2006 at 2:19 pm
I’d love to see someone photoshop that cake – Congratulations on shit, IE team.
Go FF!
October 24th, 2006 at 2:19 pm
Fortunately we could catch the server now. It seems to be quite responsive now. Holy moly!

October 24th, 2006 at 2:52 pm
PS: No poison added.

October 24th, 2006 at 3:03 pm
You should send them a cake back, include the recipe, and say you’ll gladly accept suggestions for improvement.
October 24th, 2006 at 3:04 pm
I suspect the IE team is thankful for firefox, because it finally forced microsoft to get their act together and update IE, thus ensuring the team stayed employed
October 24th, 2006 at 3:06 pm
Adam: Too late we just ate it
Elbondo: No that’s not arrogant, but is it allowed to mention that this is not a race so it does not matter?
All people who cry “fake”: Nope it’s not fake. You needn’t believe it though, if you don’t want to. — I don’t care.
October 24th, 2006 at 3:07 pm
Good to see the developers at Microsoft are human!

Looks more like a ‘funeral cake’ to me, unless the colors of the picture are unset.
Nice one, Adam, very subtle…
October 24th, 2006 at 4:08 pm
I agree with asten.
The IE developer group is probably thankful for Firefox, because without a competitor taking a bite out of IE’s dominance, MS wouldn’t be developing IE, and their group would have likely remained disbanded.
(The MS legal team might be thankful for Firefox competition which helps with browser-monopoly legal battles around the world.)
(MS sales teams and OEMs might be thankful for Firefox localizations which help sell Windows computers to locales in which MS hasn’t developed a localization.)
October 24th, 2006 at 4:09 pm
Nope the colors are pretty accurate: It’s a black and white cake.
It’s delicious
October 24th, 2006 at 4:12 pm

October 24th, 2006 at 5:37 pm
[…] Mozilla has released the 2nd version of its popular web browswer, Firefox. No doubt, it has everyone talking about it and even Microsoft sent a cake congratulating the Firefox team. Firefox 2 comes with some neat upgrades including a visual refresh, built-in phising protection, enhanced search capabilities, inline spell checking, previewing and subscribing to web feeds, and resuming your browser session after a system crash. Unfortunately, the upgrade doesn’t come without a tradeoff. Extensions and themes that were once compatible with Firefox 1.5 may not be with 2.0. While I’m sure a lot of the developers of the themes and extensions are already working to make them compatible, there is always the chance that I’ll never get my iFox theme back due to the developer no longer being active. Apart from that, I see no reason why you shouldn’t upgrade. […]
